allow others to help

How to allow others to help

Although I titled this like a tutorial with the words “how to”, it isn’t one.  Instead, it is more a realization that I had today.  With our words, we often ask for help, but then with our actions, we push it away.  We often don’t realize that we are doing it, and we get frustrated.  With awareness, we might get our words and our actions into better alignment. sending positive thoughts

Sending positive thoughts

There are many tragedies in life.  Death, disease, violence, natural disasters, accidents all cause us stress and worry.  In times like these, we often talk about praying for the victims, or sending positive thoughts and energy.  We do it to help those who are hurting, and we do it to feel like we are contributing in some way, even if we are too far away to be of service in person.  Some people say that such efforts are useless.  They do not believe that positive thoughts can help anyone.  Whether this is true or not, we still do it.  We do it for ourselves if for no one else.  It helps ease the pain of feeling helpless.  But I do believe that such things can be helpful to those in need, too. electric bill sticker shock

Electric bill sticker shock

The other day we received our electric bill for last month.  It was a bit of a shock, and I went into panic mode for a while.  I hadn’t looked at the bill itself, just the amount due.  We have set up automatic payments, and I received an email saying that a partial payment was scheduled.  That meant the bill was over $150, which is the highest automatic payment we had authorized.  Our last few months of bills have been right around $120-$130.  This time the bill was $170.  Now, I accept that we are a large family in a large house and therefore consume more than your average electricity.  On top of that, I am a stay-home mom, so I usually use electricity during the day.  Usually it is laundry, cooking, or computer use.   Continue reading

The answer is always yes

The answer is always “yes”

I had an epiphany today.  I love having epiphanies.  Today’s epiphany was about the nature of the Universe and how the answer is always yes.  Why, yes, I do think about the Law of Attraction a lot.  I have observed it at work so often in my life that I can’t deny its perfection.  I know I talk incessantly about it, but it has transformed my life and I want to share it with everyone.  There is no fanatic like a convert. mastering strength

Mastering strength

Some of us have had hard lives.  Probably even most of us have had hard times in life.  I am willing to bet that everyone has had to face a challenge at some point in their lives.  Some people face more challenges than others, and we call them strong.  The people who have survived challenges that we don’t think we could handle often hold our admiration. Continue reading

thankful for knitting

Thankful for Knitting {Thankful Thursday}

Ah, Thursday.  A day to delight in our bounty.  In astrological terms, Thursday is ruled by the planet Jupiter, which represents abundance and growth.  This makes it the perfect day to think about thankfulness and count our blessings.  I am especially grateful today for the age old handwork of knitting.   Continue reading

My favorite resources

My favorite resources to transform your life

One of the great things about the internet is the vast array of resources that are now available to us.  Today I want to share some of my favorites with you.  They range in topic and format, but they have all been life-changing for me. Continue reading

This I believe

This I believe

Today I am out of my usual routine, so I thought I would share something that I wrote for a church service this past winter.  I was asked to share my personal credo, my system of beliefs.  Since my religion does not have one specific dogma, we sometimes have services in which a handful of us share our own beliefs.  It is so fun to hear the ideas that govern each of our lives.  So here today is n explanation of my own personal religious beliefs.  I hope something here resonates with you. bread and roses - poverty as spiritual disease

Bread and Roses – Poverty as a spiritual disease

Poverty sucks. As if we didn’t already know.  Lately, I have started seeing posts (such as from Lifehacker) that help bring awareness to the subtle effects of poverty, and hopefully that will help start to destigmatize those who live in the midst of it. We all say we want to know how to end poverty.  We even have a war on poverty.  But what will it really take to end poverty? Continue reading

Feeling better about Trump

Feeling better about Trump

Wow, Trump sure knows how to inspire people to passion, doesn’t he?  You either love him or loathe him.  I will be completely honest and say that the man who is running for president frightens me.  But here’s the thing — I don’t know if that is indeed the real Donald Trump.  There have been several little things that make me wonder just what the chances really are of a Trump presidency.

First hints in February

The first article that caught my attention was this one from the Bipartisan Report.  Here the author portrays Trump as merely the Continue reading
