Although I titled this like a tutorial with the words “how to”, it isn’t one. Instead, it is more a realization that I had today. With our words, we often ask for help, but then with our actions, we push it away. We often don’t realize that we are doing it, and we get frustrated. With awareness, we might get our words and our actions into better alignment. Continue reading
This is Christmastide, specifically, the fourth day of Christmas. No, today, I did not receive four Calling birds, three french hens, two turtle doves, or a partridge in a pear tree. We did have a delivery of heating oil, time to knit a mitten, a new rear suspension in the car, and breakfast made by R. I highly doubt those will repeat daily for the next week. I certainly hope not. For many things, once is nice, more than that is too much. Continue reading
As I discussed on Thursday, I was in the pulpit last Sunday. So many people have asked for a copy of my sermon, either so that they can study it in more depth, or because they were unable to attend church that morning. Ah, Thursday. A day to delight in our bounty. In astrological terms, Thursday is ruled by the planet Jupiter, which represents abundance and growth. This makes it the perfect day to think about thankfulness and count our blessings. I am especially grateful today for the age old handwork of knitting. Continue reading
Today I am out of my usual routine, so I thought I would share something that I wrote for a church service this past winter. I was asked to share my personal credo, my system of beliefs. Since my religion does not have one specific dogma, we sometimes have services in which a handful of us share our own beliefs. It is so fun to hear the ideas that govern each of our lives. So here today is n explanation of my own personal religious beliefs. I hope something here resonates with you. Continue reading
Welcome to this week’s installment for Thankful Thursday. Today I am so grateful for the spiritual community of Unitarian Universalism that I found ten years ago. The church that defines itself not by a creed, but by a set of seven guiding principles that can be applied to any creed.
